Common Faults and Solutions of Stepper Drives

Stepper motors and their driver systems have a wide range of applications in fields such as automation control and precise positioning. However, during actual use, due to the influence of various factors, stepper drivers may encounter various faults. This article aims to summarize the common fault types of stepper drivers and the corresponding solutions.

Check this article if the stepper motor does not rotate after being connected to the driver.
Stepper Motor Does Not Rotate After Connecting to the Driver

If it is confirmed to be a driver problem after cross-testing, please refer to the following common faults and solutions.

The driver indicator light is off

Solution:

Check whether the power supply is normal. Use a multimeter to test whether the power output is normal.
Check whether the driver power port is damaged. Use a multimeter to measure whether the input voltage of the driver power port is normal.
Check whether the power wiring is correct.

Driver alarm

Solution:
According to the number of flashes of the red light, refer to the instructions to determine the cause and solution of the alarm..

The driver has no alarm, but the motor does not rotate

Solution:

Check whether the 5V/24V dialing code is correct.
Check whether the motor shaft is locked. After powering on, rotate the motor shaft by hand. If it can rotate, please disconnect the ENA interface.
Check whether the pulse signal input is normal.
Check whether the PUL+/- port is damaged.

The motor can only rotate in one direction

Solution:

Check whether the direction signal is normal. Use a multimeter to measure the "DIR+" and "DIR-" voltages. There should be a change of 0V↔5V when switching directions manually. If there is no change, check the controller wiring.
Check whether the DIR port is damaged. Connect "DIR+" directly to the positive pole of the 5V power supply, and "DIR-" to the negative pole, and observe whether the motor reverses. If it does not turn, the driver direction control function is damaged.

Summarize

Failures in stepper drives are usually related to power supply, signal, load and heat dissipation. Through step-by-step investigation, the problem can be effectively solved. If you still cannot solve the problem after trying the above methods, please contact our technical staff in time.
