Common Parameter Setting Instructions for Stepper Driver Software
This article explains in detail how to use MotionStudio to adjust the main parameters of the driver.
Currently, among the products sold by STEPPERONLINE, whether it is a driver or a motor with an integrated driver, as long as it has an RS232 interface, the tuning software MotionStudio can be used.
Please prepare: driver, power supply, RS232 debugging cable, USB to RS232 cable (select according to the situation), MotionStudio software.
Here, we choose CL57T-V41 as an example;
Please note: Both the CL42T-V41 and CL86T (3.0) drivers have a "default" dial. Please set the dial to this gear when debugging parameters, otherwise the parameters cannot be modified successfully.
Take out the RS232 debugging cable that comes with the driver and insert it into the RS232 debugging interface of the driver;
Prepare an RS232 to USB cable, connect one end to the PC and the other end to the RS232 debugging cable. Note: This cable needs to be purchased separately.
Here is the purchase link https://www.omc-stepperonline.com/usb-2-0-to-serial-rs232-adapter-with-1m-cable-converter-c006.
If your PC already has an RS232 interface, you do not need to use this cable. You can directly connect the above RS232 debugging cable to the PC. )
Please prepare a DC power supply for powering the driver (note:) the voltage of the power supply needs to be within the driver input range)
Finally, please download the MotionStudio software:

Power on the driver and open the software, as shown in the figure
Click "Communication";
Select RS232 mode and select the correct serial port;
Click "Connect".
After the software is successfully connected, as shown in the figure (the communication is normal and the corresponding model of the driver appears in the status bar).
After everything is ready, we enter the formal debugging stage:
Before modification, please turn the yellow current knob on the outside of the driver to the default value "0". At this time, you can use software to set the peak current value of the driver.
Click "Parameters";
Click "Parameter Number";
Find the "Peak current";
Click the value to modify it according to your needs.
After the current modification is completed:
Click "Delivery parameters to driver";
Click "Save".
As shown in the figure, the current value of the driver has been modified successfully.
Click "Parameters";
Click "Factory Settings";
Find "Encoder Resolution";
According to your needs, click on the value to modify it;
For example, our driver supports an encoder with a resolution of 1000PPR by default. Because of the frequency relationship (1000PPR=4000CPR), the driver's default value is 4000CPR. If your motor encoder resolution is 500PPR, then the value here needs to be set to 2000 (CPR).
After the modification is successful,
Click "Delivery parameters to driver";
Click "Save";
In this way, the modified value is saved successfully.
This parameter adjustment is suitable for situations where the motor noise is too loud. The default value can be appropriately reduced.
Click "Parameters";
Click "Gain Adjustment";
Find "Velocity loop and position loop";
According to your needs, click on the value to modify it;
Note: The values of the speed loop and position loop need to be consistent.
After successful saving, the above interface will appear.
This function means that when a position out-of-tolerance alarm occurs, connecting a 5-24VDC power supply between enable ENA+ and ENA- can clear the alarm without restarting the power supply of the driver.
However, if an overcurrent or overvoltage alarm occurs, you must first cut off the power, check the circuit, and then power on again after confirming that it is correct. It cannot be cleared through this function.
0-disable clearing enable faults, 1-enable clearing enable faults;
Click "Parameters";
Click "Monitor Settings";
Find "ENA to clear fault select";
Click on the value to modify it according to your needs;
As shown in the picture, the modification was successful.
The above are the detailed steps for modifying several parameters of the software. If you encounter other problems when using the software, please feel free to contact us and we will serve you wholeheartedly!
