How Can We Drive a 6 Wire Stepper Motor by 4 Wire Driver

Do not connect O+, O-, only connect A+, A-, B+, B-, the effect is the same as that of a 4-wire motor. Its characteristic is that the locked-rotor torque and efficiency will be relatively high, but the high-speed performance is relatively poor, and low-speed high-torque applications should give priority to this method. Note that the actual working current should be less than the rated current of the motor, generally 0.7 times;

O+ is connected to any one of A+ and A-, and O- is connected to B+ and B-. The high-speed performance of this connection motor is better, but because one group of coils is idle, the stall torque and efficiency will be relatively low. It is suitable for use in occasions with relatively high speed, and its maximum operating current is the rated current of the motor.

It is important to note that using a 4-wire driver to control a 6-wire motor may result in a less efficient motor because the three phases of the motor cannot exactly match the four output wires of the driver. Therefore, when selecting a driver, it is necessary to consider the rated power of the motor and the rated power of the driver to ensure the matching between them.
