How to Set T Series Stepper Driver Alarm Output Normally Open/Normally Closed?

First, let's briefly explain the difference between "normally open" and "normally closed":

Normally open (NO):

When there is no power or signal, the contacts of the switch or relay are open and current cannot pass. Only when the device is powered on or receives a signal do the contacts close and current can pass. In the driver's fault signal output, if it is set to normally open, then under normal operating conditions, the fault signal output is disconnected, and when a fault occurs, the signal output will be closed.

Normally closed (NC):

When there is no power or signal, the contacts of the switch or relay are closed and current can pass through. Only when the device is powered on or receives a signal do the contacts open and current cannot pass. In the driver's fault signal output, if it is set to normally closed, then under normal operating conditions, the fault signal output is closed, and when a fault occurs, the signal output will be disconnected.

Normally, the choice of normally open or normally closed driver alarm signal mainly depends on the system design and safety requirements. For example, some systems may need to default to a "safe" state when the drive loses power or signal is lost, in which case normally closed mode may be selected. Some systems may need to default to a "non-safe" state when power is lost or signal is lost. In this case, the normally open method may be selected.

The setting method of our T series driver is as follows:

Open-Loop driver:

Since this type of driver does not have an RS232 software debugging port, we can use an external relay to convert the alarm model between normally open and normally closed. The wiring method of the relay is as follows:

The figure shows the method of setting normally open and normally closed four drivers in series. Similarly, single or multiple drivers can be set according to the wiring in the above figure.

Closed-loop driver:

There are two ways to set up the closed-loop driver: software change and relay conversion. The method of relay conversion is the same as that of the open-loop driver. Please refer to the figure above. Below we focus on the methods of software modification:

Prepare the cables for connecting the drive to the PC: CABLE-PC-1 and RS232 to USB cable (such as our company's C006). Of course, if your host supports CABLE-PC-1 direct connection, this is also possible;
Download the driver debugging software: Enter the "Download" interface of the driver. Find the "MotionStudio.zip" file, download and install it;
Enter the software interface and follow the steps as shown below: Click Connect-Select the correct port-Connect;

As shown in the figure: Open parameter settings-find PR4.31 (modify as needed, 1 is normally open/0 is normally closed)-send parameters to the driver-save driver parameters;

If the parameters have not changed after saving, it is recommended to power off and restart the drive.
