How to Use the Y Series Closed-loop Driver Software?
This article will explain in detail how to use the software of the Y series closed-loop driver.
(Since the Y series closed-loop drivers have two versions, 1.0 and 2.0, with different software, we will explain them separately in two versions.)
V1.0:
Please prepare the following: driver, power supply, driver debugging box, and driver software. (The motor can be connected based on actual conditions.) Here, we use the CL57Y as an example for demonstration:

Take out the two cables of Y-USB-CL and connect them in the order of driver-debugging unit-PC end;

Download Stepper Driver Software(V1.0 is compatible with both the old and new software versions.)
:
Use a DC power supply to power the driver (note: the power supply voltage needs to be within the driver input range, for example, the input voltage of CL57Y is 24VDC-50VDC, then the power supply output voltage must be within this range), connect the V+ of the power supply to the V+ port of the driver, and connect the V- of the power supply to the V- port of the driver. After power-on, the indicator lights of the driver and the debugging unit light up.

After the software is downloaded and installed successfully, click the desktop icon and the following interface will appear:

The software is available in both Chinese and English. You can choose the language according to your needs.
After entering the software, select the correct serial port as shown in the figure and click "Connect";

The connection is successful as shown in the figure below, and the icons are all green:

At this point, our preparations are ready. Here is a detailed description of how to operate the software.
Driver operation mode modification

The driver supports multiple operating modes. If you need to change to open loop or other modes, please follow the steps below:
- Find the "Run Mode";
- Click the drop-down menu and select the mode you need to change;
- Click "Write";
- Click "Save Parameters"; (Note: If you change to open-loop mode, please set the SW3 dial to ON at the same time)
After completing the above steps, please power off and restart the drive so that the mode can be changed successfully.
Internal testing/trial run function
The driver itself has an internal test mode, which you can think of as a trial run. Without using an external controller, the driver's built-in pulse generator controls the motor to run.
This function can help you perform a simple product self-test and confirm whether the motor and driver are running normally without using an external controller. The operation steps are as follows:

- Find "Test Mode" in the tool options and turn it on;

- As shown in the figure, in the internal test mode, you can use the two buttons "Forward Continuous" and "Reverse Continuous " to make the motor run continuously;
- If you feel that the running speed or acceleration and deceleration are too slow, you can also modify it. After the modification, please click "Download Parameters", otherwise the modification will be invalid. The current running speed and position of the motor will be displayed at the bottom of the interface.
- Similarly, click the "Forward and Reverse Position" button, and the motor will rotate a certain distance according to the fixed number of pulses. This is the jog operation;
Modification of the default supported encoder resolution

The driver supports encoders with a resolution of 1000 lines (1000PPR) by default. If you need to drive encoders with different resolutions, you can modify it as follows:
- Find the encoder resolution parameter;
- Click the drop-down menu and you can see that the driver supports modification of three resolutions: 1000 lines/2500 lines/5000 lines;
- Select the resolution you want to modify and click "Write";
- Click "Save Parameters";
Last but not the least, power off and restart the driver.
Modification of current parameters
It is worth mentioning that our Y series closed-loop drivers have intelligent current regulation function. For example, CL57Y, no matter what the rated current of your NEMA 23/24 motor is, the driver will automatically identify the required current of the motor and output the most appropriate current.

As shown in the figure above, if you feel that the default peak current of the driver is too large, you can also adjust it by modifying the default value. Don't forget to click "Write" and "Save Parameters" after modification.
Gain adjustment
This parameter adjustment is suitable for situations where the motor noise is too loud. You can adjust this parameter appropriately to improve the situation.

As shown in the figure, find the current loop parameters and modify them according to the following situations:
- When the load is heavy and the speed requirement is high, increase it by 100 each time on the original basis;
- When the load is light and the sound requirement is high, reduce it by 100 each time on the original basis; after modification, click "Write" and "Save Parameters".
V2.0:
ake out the CABLE-PC-2 debugging cable included with the driver, and connect it in the order of driver → debugging cable → PC. (If your computer does not have a DB9 port, it is recommended to use this adapter cable: https://www.omc-stepperonline.com/usb-2-0-to-serial-rs232-adapter-with-1m-cable-converter-c006

Download the stepper driver software (the new software supports both old and new driver versions):
Power the driver using a DC or AC power supply (Note: The voltage of the power supply must be within the input range of the driver. For example, the input voltage for the CL86Y-V20 is 20-80VAC/30-110VDC, so the output voltage of the power supply must fall within this range). Connect the V+ terminal of the power supply to the V+ terminal of the driver, and connect the V- terminal of the power supply to the V- terminal of the driver. After powering on, the indicator lights on both the driver and the debugging box will illuminate.
fter successfully downloading the software, it is recommended to choose English during installation. Then, click the desktop icon, and the following interface will appear:

Select according to the driver model, then click Confirm to enter the software interface:

The software offers both Chinese and English versions, and you can choose the language according to your needs.

With the new software, there is no need to select the serial port manually; it will be automatically detected. Once you enter the software interface, it indicates that the connection has been successfully established.
Click "Read Parameters," and the software will display the current parameter values of the driver.

At this point, our preparations are complete. Below, we will explain in detail how to operate the software:
Modifying the Driver Operating Mode

The driver supports multiple operating modes. If you need to switch to open-loop mode or another mode, please follow the steps below:
- Locate the operating mode parameter.
- Click the dropdown menu and select the mode you wish to switch to. (For explanations of these modes, please refer to: Difference Between Lead Angle Algorithm and Vector Mode Algorithm in Y Series Closed Loop Driver Operating Mode
- Click "Write."
- Click "Save."
After completing the above steps, please power cycle the driver (turn it off and on again). The mode will then be successfully changed.
For more operations, please refer to: User Manual for the New Version Software of the Y Series Closed-Loop Driver
The above are the detailed steps for modifying several parameters using the software. The same process can be referenced for modifying other parameters. If you encounter any other issues while using the software, please feel free to contact us. We are dedicated to providing you with the best service!
